Company Brunvoll Volda AS, Stadt AS and Høglund Marine Systems AS has devised an LNG propulsion system to meet the Vindskip® requirements that retains a high level of efficiency over a wide range of power outputs, minimising greenhouse gas and NOx emissions. It also eliminates the sulphur emission that are a big problem with today’s conventional PCTCs burning residual fuel.
Modes and Fuels of the Propulsion system |
The Main Engine output is 5400 kW at 750 rpm – able to run on LNG & Biogas |
The Gen set 1 output is 3450 kW at 720 rpm – able to run on LNG & Biogas |
The Gen set 2 output is 3600 kW at 720 – able to run on MDO & Biofuel |
The Vindskip® main dimensions:
Length Loa | 199 m | Lightship weight | 16 500 tons |
Length Lbp | 195 m | Lightship draft average | 5,4 m |
Breadth | 49 m/ 26 m (trimaran hull) | Lightship draft forward | 5,3 m |
Net parking area | 56 810 m2 | Lightship draft aft | 5,5 m |
Design speed | 18,0 knots | Design draft | 8,5 m |
Installed power, main engine plus auxiliary engines :
– 11 400 kW MCR (maximum continues rating)
– Maximum effect on the propeller is 9 300 kW |
With an LNG-electric propulsion machinery installed, it is possible to reduce the need for total installed power, as the auxiliary engines can contribute with power to the propeller, still maintaining the requirement for redundancy and the need for a sufficient speed. The design speed is set to 17 knots, while the calculated need for average speed by means of the Weather Routing Module version Vindskip®, is 15,0 knots.
